Coronavirus Crisis Response so far – Leaflets

The Town Council has been working with various groups within the community this week.  We have produced a leaflet which will be distributed by the Royal Mail to every home in Great Torrington early next week.  We would like to say a huge “thank you” to the Royal Mail for undertaking this task on behalf of the community.  The purpose of the leaflet is to advise anyone who is isolated and has no-one local they can easily call on of contact numbers they can phone to get help.  We think the leaflet is self-explanatory and hope it will ensure that no-one is left alone when they need assistance.

The Town Council has met with a number of representatives from organisations within the town this week and is collecting a bank of volunteers from these groups, people known to people in the town.  These volunteers will be available for such tasks as 1. Making contact via social phone calling, 2. Picking up/delivering prescriptions and goods. The Town Council will monitor referrals on an ongoing basis.

The second leaflet lists phone numbers for shops for immediate essentials, mainly food related and also contact numbers for specific agencies who might be of help (please click links below to view/print leaflets):-

Actions

The Town Council is also aware that there are a number of “help groups” at the moment; one suggestion has been for a street/cul-de-sac etc. to have a few people who live in the location be available for any neighbours who are without help.  We are aware this is happening in 2 locations so far and if there are any others, the Town Council would appreciate organisers letting us know so that we can add the info to our data base and be in a position to sign post if necessary.

Additionally, it would be helpful if you could let us know of any other lovely initiatives, with a contact name and number. We can store them and again, signpost accordingly.

We would like to thank all who have contributed towards the work this week – It has been really heartening to see how many people in our community are willing to help each other, and we are mindful that there is much more likely to be happening that we do not know of.
