Torrington Museum

Torrington Museum was for many years housed in the Town Hall assembly room but was forced to leave in 2007 when work began to create a new community venue in the building.  Now this small friendly free museum, run entirely by volunteers, is housed at 14 South Street in the centre of town next to the market entrance.  It is open Monday to Friday 10.30am – 4.00pm and Saturday 10.30am – 1.00pm.  Admission is free but donations are welcomed for museum restoration.  An Honorary Archivist can help with family history information.

The museum possesses many fascinating exhibits and reflects the diverse history of this ancient market town.  Exhibits include –

Civil War display

Heating and Lighting

The Forge

Railway Transport

Also items from gloving, agriculture, printing, blacksmiths, WW2 and a number of costumes on show from the museum’s collection.
