Community Christmas Lunch
The Community Christmas Day Lunch for those in our Community spending the day alone was a great success, with many of those attending having the opportunity to make new friends .
Support from all the shops in our Town was overwhelming! All gave freely of what was needed to help us have a special day. We even had enough for us to be able to provide a takeaway dinner for some the next day.
For those not able to join us a local meal was delivered by Cllr Sue Mills and Cllr Keeley Allin and lifts were given to any needing assistance to join us.
Special thanks to my friend Gillian Saich who did the cooking and supported me throughout the months of preparation along with volunteers peeling sprouts and carrots on Christmas Eve and also with the decorating of the Methodist Church who allowed us to use their facilities. Rotary, Lona Zagurskas made it possible for Father Christmas to attend with presents for everyone. Entertainment came from Rev Ken Morgan (Quiz) and a sing a long from Kathy Ellis.
Great Torrington Town Council made life easier by underwriting any possible loss. I am pleased to say a small profit was made. Thank you letters have been sent, and details of income and expenditure can be seen in the Town Council offices by request .
A huge thankyou to our Special Caring Community who have so much love to share with those perhaps not as fortunate as the rest of us.
Councillor Mrs Margaret Brown
