Best Garden Competition 11 October 2017

What a fantastic set of results for Torrington at the South West in Bloom Regional Finals day, held in Torquay on the 5 October; the town was awarded another Silver-Gilt certificate which means we are maintaining our standards to a very high degree.  Not only that, but two of our It’s Your Neighbourhood groups received the highest accolade within the category, which was Outstanding for the Secret Memorial Garden and for the S&G flowerbed (cared for by Torrington Horticultural Society).  Our third It’s Your Neighbourhood award was an Establishing given to the Tarka Valley Railway group for the work they have done restoring the old coal dock area – this is quite a new part of the whole area and can only improve year on year.

We are absolutely thrilled with these awards because they are fully deserved considering the amount of hard work and dedication that goes into maintaining such high standards.

Next year, we would like to see further community involvement (It’s Your Neighbourhood groups), particularly with younger people and this is something we shall be promoting in the near future.

Now for the results of the Best Garden competition.  Yet again, this was a hotly contested competition, with occasionally only one or two points separating the overall winner from the nearest rival!  Sarah Chesters spent some time contemplating each category and awarding points – it wasn’t easy!  Anyway, without further ado, here are the winners:
