New pictorial maps have been put up in six locations in and around Torrington. The maps were designed by local graphic designer Phil Butcher and feature text inlays providing descriptions of historical sites, landscape features, and information on attractions, facilities and services in the town.

£1,000 came from the Mary Portas town initiatives but were supplemented by £600 from the Town Council as part of their Great Torrington Futures Group. The long term focus of the group is the economic regeneration of the town and surrounding parishes; next steps concentrate on better highway signage.

The signs are located in locations for maximum exposure including Sydney House Car Park, RHS Rosemoor, Town Pannier Market, Dartington Crystal, Puffing Billy complex and at the old Bowling Green. Smaller reproductions of the boards have been placed in Council offices, tourist information and other locations.

Torrington Councillor Cathrine Simmons said: “The information boards are just a small part of a much longer list of projects we hope to implement to rejuvenate the town and surrounding areas. But they have already been well received with lots of positive feedback. I want to congratulate the Great Torrington Futures Group for delivering these enhancements and will be working with them to progress other projects in the town.”
