I'm sure you will all agree that the train shaped planter made by the Torrington Men's Shed group is looking very impressive now that it has been planted up - it is situated on a disused platform at Barnstaple Train Station.

Mill St residents will get the same service as the rest of Torridge.  Residents will be given a weekly food waste caddy and, instead of a green wheelie bin for green waste, will be given a hessian bag to use because the raised pavement means that the green wheelie bins cannot be collected and emptied efficiently. Residents can start signing up for the optional green waste service now, which will be the same annual charge of £35, which is for the collection and disposal of the waste rather than for the wheelie bin.

Town Tidy Up Day

With Mayfair soon approaching, we all want Great Torrington to look it’s best. So in conjunction with Great Torrington Town Council, I am organising a town tidy up day on the 28th of April. The main focus will be on the town centre, I am hoping small groups could also focus on other parts of the town such as the car park and the various entrances to the town to ensure we are showing our Town off at it’s very best! Shops can get involved by perhaps ensuring their frontage is looking it’s best. I will be writing letters with more information in due course but I hope you will all get involved and make Great Torrington look it’s very best for the most important day in our calendar.

Don’t hesitate to get in touch on

Many thanks

Keeley Allin.

Train waiting on Platform 2

Recently our Technical Assistants helped Great Torrington Men's Sheds members in moving a "Train & Carriage Planter" they had made to be placed on Barnstaple town railway platform. The Train shaped planter was commissioned by the Devon and Cornwall Railway Partnership (based at Plymouth University).  I'm sure you'll agree it certainly makes a great feature on the platform.

Mayor's chosen Charities

My chosen two charities this year are the North Devon Hospice and the Torrington Army Cadets.

I have supported the North Devon Hospice for several years fundraising.  Two years ago I lost a good friend and workmate who received excellent care at the hospice, but sadly passed away.  I have chosen the North Devon Hospice as one of my charities in memory of this friend and for all they do in our local community.

During a visit I made to the Army Cadet Force a few months ago I was impressed at the range of activities the youngsters get involved in and the commitment of all of the adult helpers who freely give their time to developing the youngsters. The Cadets also do an enormous amount of work in our community throughout the year and it is for these reasons that I wanted to give my support to this organisation.
