Annual Civic Service Sunday 26th June 2016

The Mayor, Mayor’s cadet, Great Torrington Silver Band, Town Councillors, Girl Guides and other dignitaries lined up to possess to the Methodist Church.  The steady beat of the town band kept the possession in step.  The Rev. Ken Morgan welcomed us to his church which was well attended by the public and supporters.  The Mayor read a poem, Cllrs Sue Mills and Di Davey read the bible readings and Father Peter Bevan led the prayers of intercession.  Mary Chant sang a beautiful rendition of ‘Avie Maria’ by Shubert.  There was a collection in aid of the Mayor’s charities which are Torrington in Bloom and Torrington Mayfair Celebrations this year.

Finally the congregation sang ‘Land of Hope and Glory’ and waved flags all very patriotic.  The possession left the church and marched back to Sydney House Car Park, but returned to have tea with their friends, families and supporters.  The tea was provided by the Methodist Church Ladies.
