The Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Town Clerk met with three Devon County Council (DCC) officers at the end of July to discuss an experimental pilot scheme, “Doing what matters”. In summary, it is a 6-month DCC project to establish whether engaging better with people “on the ground” serves and improves the maintenance programmes of the roads, paths and drains better than relying on more distanced evidence to drive decision making.

As part of this initial project the Town Council is working with DCC to establish priorities in relation to road repairs and drainage.  Following an initial meeting at the end of July the Town Council undertook an audit of all drains in the town centre and its boundaries setting out which ones are blocked/semi blocked and has relayed this information to DCC.

The Town Council welcomes this opportunity to work closely with Devon County Council and hopes such relationships will be of significant benefit to the fabric and community of the town. We will also await the outcome of this experiment.
